Studying the Process: Goals and Approaches
Our research goal was to gain insight about the experiences and thinking of Forum participants, including the students, teachers, planning team members and community partners. We were particularly interested in their understandings of sustainability, types of involvement in local Action Projects, feelings about their ability to take action on local issues, attitudes towards school, museums, learning, teaching, business and youth, and their reasons for participating in the Forum.
Participants included those who were involved in past Youth Forums, as well as those involved in Round 1 of the RSM Forum. The research was qualitative and data were gathered through surveys, conversational interviews, participant observation, and the documentation of student projects.
